Resources for Teachers, Students, and Parents coping with COVID-19-induced changes

"The future we’ve talked about is here early and this is not a test"

The next few weeks are going to look a lot different for everyone. In the midst of all the unknowns, the only thing I can think of to help me cope with what is going on is to teach, create, and share resources on my class website.

Below are some things I've been thinking about. Please note that none of them are novel or earth-shattering---I'm just sharing what's on my mind.

1) Schedules Help. Our kids are used to schedules in school. Time can FLY BY or DRAGGGG slowly depending on the mood and activity level of our kids + the added factor of their "mom-needs-to-get-things-done-so-let-me-interrupt" detector. Note however, that being flexible with the schedules is equally as important.

2) Resources are available. Find ones that match your needs-- that goes for students, teachers, and parents. HERE, I have some by category to help filter through but feel free to explore every column--most cross over. Please feel free to also suggest any resources that I can include!

3) Create, do & learn. The news, friends, family, social media, & other avenues will be pulling and pushing us in different directions. We have to STAY FOCUSED on what we can control. Kids as well as adults have lists in their heads of things that they 'ONE DAY' want to do, but are too busy to do. WHY NOT DO THEM NOW? This is a great opportunity to learn a new language, learn to code, write that book we've been putting off, finish creating that _____(fill in the blank).

4) Share your process. We are all designing in real-time. Share your process as you go. This can help reduce the anxiety that others may have to produced "polished" and "tired" ideas. Instead if we shift to DRAFT mentality, we can test ideas out and see if they work...possibly failing a few times, but failing fast is always a plus.

5) CONNECT. Yes, I know we have been told to practice #socialdistancing, but that doesn't mean we can't connect through face-time or calls. Let's ask people questions. Share your expertise when possible. Everyone has something to teach us! Parents, please keep in mind that educators and schools are trying to figure out plans in realtime. This transition will be harder for some communities than others and we need to show empathy and compassion towards everyone.

My goal for the next few weeks is to have my space available to creating content.
