We are long the final stretch of school, but I wanted to share some links and information about today's historic event.
Why is today’s launch so significant?
This is the only the 5th time in the history of NASA’s space exploration program that humans have launched aboard a new type of vehicle. .
There are 2 astronauts also launching today, BOB BEHNKEN & DOUG HURLEY. They are the first astronauts to launch into orbit from American soil since 2011. They will be going to the International Space Station (ISS). This is a test mission to help prove that the systems on the Dragon 2 meet NASA's requirements for certification to carry astronauts to the ISS and back.
This is just the beginning of an exciting era plans for Moon Bases and the #JOURNEYTOMARS becoming more possible every day.
In my classes today I will discuss the launch with students and begin to fill out the graphic organizer below. Feel free to use it with your own families if you wish to capture today's event.
There is also a great website: www.futureme.org where you can send yourself an email to receive in a few years. Maybe you can send yourself a few thoughts from today to read in a few years. We are living in interesting times because of COVID so reading a reflection of this launch in a few years may make for a special family moment.
I am very excited to share this historic day with all of you and hope that you will take some time between 4:15- 4:40 pm to watch the launch. It is scheduled to launch at 4:33 p.m.
NASA will have coverage on their youtube channel starting at 12 p.m. Though videos and posts of the sunrise over the Dragon 2 have already started flooding the internet!
